Tractor Trailer – Looking For The Right Set Up

When shopping for the right tractor trailer set up the first thing you have to take into consideration is what it will be used for. Things like average driving distance, items hauled, weight of the items your pulling all must be taken into account when searching for the right type of tractor trailer. Lets take a look at some examples:

  1. If your hauling locally, i.e. your home every night, a day cab tractor will work. The trailer might be a dry van, reefer, or client owned where you are pulling one of their trailers
  2. Another variation of local hauling is pulling heavy duty items. Things like construction equipment, sand/gravel, etc may require a more beefed up tractor such as a Peterbilt, Mack, Freightliner, etc.
  3. Long haul would consist of purchasing a semi truck (as mentioned above) along with a trailer that fits with the job. These trailers might include a dry van or refer. This set up is typical for the coast to coast trucker.
  4. One final tractor trailer set up worth mentioning is for pulling containers. Most of these guys live near the coast and will pull containers from the ship to across the country.

As you can see there are many different tractor trailer set ups that can be found. The combinations are endless. Be sure to evaluate all potential sources of business when shopping for a tractor trailer. You want to be as Versatile  as possible.
